We were invited to attend the Launchbox08 portfolio companies' demo day today, and will feature it in an upcoming DC Piazza video episode. Launchbox Digital is a DC-based early stage investment firm, and today's event lived up to their claim to being "a place for cutting-edge ideas and cutting-edge talent.".
There were 9 startups presenting today (BuzzHubb, Heekya, JamLegend, Koofers.com, Mpowerplayer, MyGameMug, Razumé, ShareMeme, & Zadby), and all were of high caliber in terms of functionality and viability. The presentations in general were polished, in some cases having some extra pizazz of videos mixed in or live social internet interaction (always risky). One comment was in regards to the high amount of gaming-related startups (3, or 33% of them), and probably mobile-related aspects such as SMS were threaded into functionality of even more of the services offered by the sites.
Speaking with the presenters after their demos, there was a sense of excitement in every one of the people... and they all had different stories to tell, ones that are just beginning. The crews who demoed today are all on planes now flying to do the same presentation tomorrow on the west coast.
